Housing Needs Survey 2008

East Acre - Somerby

Why do we need a survey?

High prices and rents are making it hard for some villagers to find suitable homes within local communities. As a result some villages are becoming dormitories for local large towns. This can mean villages becoming unsustainable. The Parish Council are concerned that despite the success of the East Acre scheme more affordable housing may be needed locally in the near future. It is vital that consultation takes place within the Parish to understand local views and requirements.

What's going on?

A new housing needs survey has been commissioned by the Parish Council in conjunction with the Rural Housing Enabler.

Questionnaires were sent out with the March 2008 edition of the Parish magazine "Towards".

It is vital that this questionnaire is completed and returned in the pre-paid envelope to the Rural Housing Enabler who will then analyse the results and prepare a report for the Parish Council.

All individual responses will be kept confidential.

This process may result in a further development of homes for both rent and shared ownership in Somerby. It should be noted that these homes would be constructed for local people and cannot be sold on the open market.

What can I do?

Make sure friends and family are aware of this opportunity to be involved.

Tell people who may have moved away,(possibly due to high property prices) about the opportunity to return.

Complete your questionnaire and return it to the Rural Housing Enabler.

It is hoped that results will be available later in the spring. The results will be discussed at a future meeting of the Parish Council prior to any recommendations going forward seeking funding.
