A to Z of Services

  • Animal fouling

    Dog bins are provided throughout the parish for dog waste. Bagged dog waste may also be left in waste bins. Please do your bit and clean up after your pet.

  • Cemeteries

    The Parish Council is responsible for the management and maintenance of the Parish cemetery at Town End, Somerby. Plots are available for parishioners and there is a remembrance wall for cremations. Please contact the clerk for further details.

  • Council land and property

    The Parish Council does not own any land or property within the Parish.

  • Council offices

    The Parish Council office is at 96 High Street, Somerby. The office is open between 10am & noon on most Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is an answering machine for out of hour’s enquiries.

  • Crime prevention

    We are fortunate to live in a low crime area however we do receive regular crime updates from the local police liaison officer at Melton Mowbray and any items of local interest will be posted on this site within the news section as well as on the notice boards and within the Parish magazine “Towards” which is delivered to parishioners every month.

  • Dog litter bins

    Dog litter bins are provided throughout the Parish. We would ask all parishioners to think of others and always clear up after their pet.

  • Drainage and sewerage

    The Parish Council is not directly responsible for drainage or sewage but please let us know if you spot a problem and we will inform the appropriate authority to ensure a rapid fix.

  • Footpaths (rights of way)

    There are rights of way (footpaths & bridleways) throughout the Parish. Leicestershire County Council are responsible for the maintenance of paths and signage. If you encounter a problem when out walking please let us know. We will then inform the appropriate department at County Hall.

  • Grass cutting (garden maintenance)

    The Parish Council is responsible for grass cutting at various locations throughout the parish.

  • Halls for hire

    There are village halls in Pickwell and Somerby both of which can be hired for local events.

  • Litter

    Please help preserve the beauty of our local countryside by taking your litter home.

  • Litter bins

    There are litter bins throughout the Parishh all of which are regularly emptied.

  • Memorials

    The Parish Council is responsible for the war memorial at Pickwell.

  • Planning applications

    The Parish Council consider and pass comment to the planning department at Melton Borough Council on all local planning applications.

  • Playgrounds

    The Parish Council is responsible for the management of the play area at High Street, Somerby.

  • Public meetings

    Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings of the Parish Council. Meeting dates can be found on the notice boards in Burrough on the Hill, Pickwell and Somerby.

  • Recycling (waste)

    There is a recycling centre on the Knossington Road, Somerby.

  • Register of electors

    The Parish Council have a copy of the register of electors.

  • Sports and recreation facilities

    The Parish Council manage and maintain the sports pitch to the rear of the play area at High Street,Somerby.

  • Street furniture

    The Parish Council provide seats at various locations throughout the villages. Please let us know if there are any problems with the seats.

  • Street lighting

    The Parish Council is responsible for the maintenance of street lighting in the parish. Please let us know if a light fails to work and we will arrange for it to be repaired.

  • Village greens

    The Parish Council is responsible for the village green at Somerby and Pickwell.

  • Village halls

    There is a village hall at Pickwell and Somerby. There is a community facility within the Parish Church at Burrough on the Hill.
